Kata’s Morning Meeting – D58

Kata’s morning meeting consisted of two parts. The first one was that we must draw a fireplace, four Christmas stockings above the fireplace, a Christmas tree, and a basket full of candy canes. All of these must be drawn in a paper on top of our heads. You really don’t want to see how that went… The second part of was to get into pairs, back to back, and one was in charge of describing a Christmas object Kata gave us and the other must draw it, and vice versa. That didn’t went that bad. Cool activity! 

Visit to the Popol Vuh Museum – D47

Today I had physiotherapy so I lost the performing arts and arrived at 2 p.m. just before Kata’s tour to the Popol Vuh Museum. Everybody seemed excited about it, but within the first 5 or 10 minutes some lost interest and went on their own way, disrespecting Kata’s effort of giving a good tour. I tried to stay with the Kata and most of the time I achieved that, although I must admit that at some times I got distracted, mainly because I didn't like the rhythm of the tour since it was a little slow. Nevertheless, only like 5 or 6 people stayed with Kata, an action that was going to be discussed later at the debriefing.

Euclid’s Propositions (7 – 10) – D46

At 9:30 we circled up to demonstrate this week’s propositions. I was in charge of taking out the papers to chose who was presenting and the first one was Majo for Proposition 7. At first, I thought she was doing it good, but then we realized she wasn’t really prepared and we she stood in front for an hour trying to understand the proposition until she kind-of got it. I assume it was terrible for her, I mean it also happened to me but only for 5 minutes or so not an hour. The good thing was that she realized she needed more preparation and to make a better effort in understanding Euclid. She agreed to start Euclid again from Proposition 1. Then Kata volunteered to make Proposition 7. Javier T. did number 8, Isa did number 9, and Mabe did number 10 (which she wasn’t prepared to do it). There was a lot of feedback, especially in Kata’s and Mabe’s presentations. Isa and Javier did a good job. 

Morning meeting (Katarina) – D25

Today, Kata directed the morning meeting, and for that she showed us two very interesting videos about the history of Halloween and the other about the end of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012. It’s important to know histories like these ones, because now a day we used to believe in today’s meaning of these events, when actually if one studies the true history and meaning of these events one can realize they have a bad connotation or not.

Southern Lunch (Corn-Pone lunch) – D10

Remember Twain’s essay Corn-Pone Opinions? If you do and know what is corn pone, you must know that it is a very typical Southern food. We arranged to bring other Southern food for lunch today (mainly because Katarina offered herself to bring corn pone and white beans with bacon and pork, since her father is from Louisiana). There were corn pone, white beans, mashed potatoes, beef in some kind of gravy, sweet corn with butter, a purple cabbage with apple salad, corn bread, apple pie, pecan pie, and real lemonade. We had a great time eating all this starch and carbohydrates, which made us all sleepy but fully satisfied!
